DESCRIPTION: Wing length up to 10.25mm. A simple hoverfly to identify with the elongate black stigma of the family quite obvious, the yellow face with broad central stripe easily noted and the two small oval spots on tergite 2, the strong yellow bars on tergite 3 and the narrower bars on tergite 4 all making this a species to easily get to grips with. BEHAVIOUR: A lover of sunlit woodland rides, hedgerows and small grassy clearings where it spends much time basking this species is never found in large numbers. PERIOD: Late March to September with a peak around May time.
